Memory is to humans what water is to a glass: it gradually accumulates and deepens through life experiences. Memory can be seen as the conscious retrieval of past experiences—every perceived object, contemplated question, and felt emotion is stored in the brain as fragmented snapshots. Within these fragments exist memory gaps, brief pauses that provide subtle spaces for reflection and mental flow.
Memory is like a string on a musical instrument: when plucked, even after it stops, its resonance lingers. Memory gaps are like interludes, containing no lyrics but connecting one context to another through simple melodies. Artists Yu-Fan CHAN and Hao-Bai LIN depict space, dreams, and personal memories. Their works can serve as a shared connection, yet when one pauses to engage more intimately, each piece retains its own gaps—spaces for viewers to fill with their own memories and emotional flows.
These memory gaps can create a sense of disorientation or déjà vu, moments where time and space intertwine. This fleeting interlude, however, is precisely the beauty of memory. Similarly, art provides a space for experiencing truth—Picasso once said, "Art is a lie that makes us realize the truth." Through this exhibition, "Memory Gaps – Interlude" at KGI Bank Dun Nan Branch, viewers are invited to discover a personal pause amidst daily life and to continue their own unique interlude through the artworks of these two artists.
