Cloud Gallery’s annual sculpture exhibition UP AND COMERS IN CLOUDS enters its eleventh edition this year. Titled “Forms Like Shadows,” the exhibition brings together artists from Taiwan, Japan, and Malaysia to explore how contemporary sculpture captures the subtle yet sincere moments of everyday life. The title draws inspiration from the interaction between shadow and form in Plato’s Allegory of the Cave, symbolizing fleeting yet genuine moments that quietly shape our perception of reality.
The works in this exhibition span a wide range of materials—including wood, metal, ceramic, and resin. Drawing from memory, sensory experience, and dreams, the artists create characters and symbolic forms that crystallize transient emotions and thoughts into tangible sculptural presence.
Here, “glimmers” are not mysterious lights, but the subtle moments that quietly shimmer within everyday life: the angle of sunlight entering a room, a fragment of a dream, the gaze of a character, or an unspoken feeling. Forms Like Shadows invites viewers to look within these sculptural forms and rediscover the quiet spaces and shifting lights of the everyday, sensing once again the depth and warmth of life. When a work encounters its viewer, sculpture is no longer merely a solidified material—it becomes a mirror reflecting memory and the inner self.
