Ho-Chung KU
Ho-Chung KU (b. 1962, Taipei) received his BFA from the Department of Fine Arts, Chinese Culture University, and an MFA from the Graduate Institute of Art Creation, Taipei National University of the Arts. He currently serves as an adjunct lecturer in the Department of Fine Arts at Taipei National University of the Arts. Working primarily in oil painting, KU is best known for his still-life works and is regarded as a representative realist painter in contemporary Taiwanese art.
KU’s artistic practice centers on themes of existence and ways of seeing. Through prolonged observation and direct painting from life, he removes objects from their everyday functions and repositions them as quiet, contemplative images imbued with spiritual depth. Integrating Eastern meditative philosophy with the visual language of Western classical painting, his works are often structured through circular, oval, vertical, and horizontal forms. Subtle layers of color and light create a serene pictorial space that reveals the flow of time and the presence of life.
